Old Baldy Club offers members and their guests a unique western experience in an elegant setting. Set in the grand landscape of Wyoming's cowboy country, Old Baldy Club began as one man's vision of a retreat where friends could gather in comfort to test their skills on the golf course and along a trout stream. Fifty years later, Old Baldy Club still pays homage to its founding traditions, while catering to the broad range of interests of today's clientele. More than just a golf or fly fishing club, Old Baldy combines a variety of outdoor activities with fine dining and superior accommodations.
This scenic and peaceful locale, named after a nearby mountain, is an exclusive private club in a secluded and quiet valley surrounded by snowcapped peaks just outside the town of Saratoga in south-central Wyoming. Whether it's a rendezvous with friends, a family reunion or a romantic getaway that brings you to Old Baldy, the club is dedicated to providing you with superb outdoor experiences and excellent service. Our dedicated and professional staff assures members and their guests a first-class experience with a personal touch.
The Club was established in 1962 by George B. Storer, the then President of Storer Broadcasting. George, and his parents, had been long term visitors to the Platte Valley for riding, fishing and limited golf. To expand these opportunities and add shooting plus fine dining and parties, George built the Club overlooking the North Platte River. His vision was to pattern the Club after the Indian Creek Club in Florida. He substituted the mountains, river, and meadows for the ocean view of Biscayne Bay. This similarly extended to the layout of the lots where you could view the golf course from one side and the natural landscape on the other. To accommodate his friends and their families, a Clubhouse, Lodge, Cottages, Tackle Shop, Golf Shop and Salon were constructed. Invitations were extended to non-members to stay at the Lodge, and Club Members were welcome to build homes should they wish to do so. This tradition remains today as new lots become available.
The 18 hole championship golf course was designed by Henry Hughes, a noted architect in the Rockies. The design was a high elevation, seasonal course with tight fairways and elevated greens that would become even tighter as the thousands of trees grew. Built on the newly cleared sagebrush of this high plains desert, all of today's 30-50 foot trees were planted where the "antelope roam". For several years the antelope generously shared their territory with the golfers, to the delight of everyone.
Over the decades since, the Club has continued the traditions of weekly cookouts on the riverside, dinner dances, tournaments and special events. Each decade brings new Members and new traditions: twilight golf, fishing tournaments, wine dinners; along with new homes, available lots, tennis courts, fitness center…. Just to name a few.
The standard of superior service, as established by George, remains today, as does the flexibility to accommodate your wishes.
